This Woman Overseeing The Russia Investigation Could Be Key To Trump’s Downfall

This Woman Overseeing The Russia Investigation Could Be Key To Trump’s Downfall

Ever since it was reported that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is using a D.C.-based grand jury in his investigation into links between the Russian government and any members of President Donald Trump's campaign, tension surrounding the case has been high. Because grand juries typically operate in quiet, out of the public eye, normally a lot goes under the radar, including the key players. But you may have heard the name Beryl Howell in the Russia investigation grand jury, and may be wondering about her role.

U.S. District Chief Judge Howell is reportedly the judge who likely signed off on Mueller's request for a grand jury in D.C. and will oversee the process, according to The Daily Beast. She's the one who will be making the determinations about things like whether subpoenas will be enforced or whether Trump-adjacent members of the campaign will be able to get out of testifying under oath.
Former President Barack Obama appointed Howell to the D.C. District Court in 2010. And former President George W. Bush appointed her to the U.S. Sentencing Commission in 2004, where she served until 2012. She's worked as the chief judge in D.C. for more than a year now.
After graduating from Columbia Law School, Howell clerked for a U.S. District Judge and eventually became an assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. In 1993, she left to work on the Senate Judiciary Committee.
An interesting part of her bio, especially considering the Russian interference investigation, is that Howell had a stint at cybersecurity firm Stroz Friedberg in the '90s as executive managing partner. According to The Daily Beast, the company's specialty is using forensic computer science to gather potentially relevant evidence for a court.

Even though the grand jury's actions have thus far been under wraps, the proceedings could become more talked about in the coming months. If the jury decided to go for impeachment, it would be up to Howell to approve that.
Howell has been linked to former Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Department of Justice fraud chief Andrew Weissmann, who joined Mueller's investigation team in May, but an anonymous formal federal lobbyist told The Daily Beast that she is "no-nonsense."
Now that there is a grand jury assembled, Mueller and his team have the opportunity to call up witnesses and seek indictments. For now, we'll have to wait to see how the special counsel's investigation will play out over the next few months.

How Meditation Can Help your Life and Learning

How Meditation Can Help your Life and Learning
Benefits of Meditation
As the day comes to a closure, we start to feel worse instead of feeling satisfied with the day. All of the craving and longing throughout the day and the numerous hours glaring at the computer screens leaves us drained completely by the end of the day. There is no room for introspection and taking the time to reflect on everything.
There’s a lot of monkey chatter going on in our minds and self-criticism is at an all time high. With so much to take in every day, how does one still manage to remain sane and mindful? Well, the people who are succeeding in their life while being content and mindful will tell you that meditation is the answer.

Everyone around is promising the benefits of meditation and how good it is for your life and health. While there has been a recent upward trend in the mentioning of meditation for a mindful life, it has been in practice since the 1500 BCE from the times of the Hindu traditions of Vedantism. With the concerns of stress and anxiety rising at an alarming rate, there is more mentioning of ‘Dhyana’ or Sanskrit for meditation

teve Jobs, Rupert Murdoch, 50 Cent, Lena Dunham, Jennifer Aniston, Padmasree Warrior Oprah Winfrey, to name few, are some of the most outrageously successful people who practice meditation daily. It is what keeps these people from staying sane while handling all of the nuances of the day.

Meditation: The silent retreat you need

Meditation art

‘Meditation is good for you, You must try it’, is something you might hear very often over the past couple of years. While we all know intuitively the benefits of practicing meditation on a daily basis, it takes much more than that to compel people to practice it. Of all the chaos that surrounds us on a daily basis, it has become important to cherish silence and take a break on all of the fuss around us. This practice of silent retreat is all about taking your time and space to process everything that is going on in your life.

Meditation preaches to simply concentrate on your breath and focus on one thing. Sitting silently, focusing on your breath and trying to calm the mind is what meditation is all about. Now while this may sound mundane, the simplicity of meditation overshadows the benefits associated with it, which we’ll be talking about in a bit.

Living life in the present moment and worrying about the future or feeling sorry for the past is something you are never taught anywhere. Living in the present moment is as difficult as simple it may sound. All of our cravings are the cause of the increasing stress and anxiety levels and it is a plague that has struck all over the world. We often forget about our inner selves, the one that makes us who we are, all for the promises of the hoax of the material and success cravings. Meditation brings the mindfulness back to us and helps in regulating all of those emotions inside of us. Meditation helps people in developing self-discipline and practicing taking on one thing at a time, in the world that has accustomed to multi-tasking as the norm.

Scientifically-backed benefits of Meditation

First let me tell you what Meditation won’t do for you! Meditation won’t mend your broken relationships, it won’t make you any happier or it does not make one behave better. While that may sound as a bummer, the simplicity and approach of ‘Less is More’ makes meditation as effective as it gets. Now, let’s lay down the scientifically-backed of Meditation and how it can help your life and your learning process.

You get more focused
Meditation improves mental focus

In our addiction with the digital world and multi-tasking, we are losing focus of the present moment, of the here and the now. Do you ever find it hard to concentrate on your tasks at hand, no matter the situation you’re in? A lack of focus is one of the primary concerns of many people all over the world and meditation would help you fix the issue. According to a study by the University of Washington, meditation was found to make people better focused on a single task. Moreover, meditation helps in fighting stress and anxiety, two of the main causes of distress and discomfort among people.

You become self-disciplined
Self decipline meditation benefits

Be it in learning a new language, trying to quit smoking or anything that you’re trying to achieve, it takes a lot of self-discipline. Recent studies have shown that meditation helps people improve their self-discipline abilities, given the effect it has on the self-control regions in the brain. Consistent meditation helps people to develop a sense of self-confidence, self-acceptance and self-awareness. Meditation helps people becoming more conscious and aware of oneself and awareness.

You become more healthy
According to multiple studies, meditation was found to help people recover quickly from acute respiratory infections and also reduced the risks of a heart attack stroke. Reduce your health care bills by taking care of your body through regular meditation. A perfect combination of a healthy mind and body is struck through the daily practice of meditation. The health benefits of meditating far outweigh the difficulties associated with making it into a daily habit.

Brings clarity and peace of mind
According to a paper published by Psychological Science, meditation was found to help people come to terms with their shortcomings. This self-awareness helps people achieve peace of mind and brings clarity to the events in one’s life. Paying attention to one’s present experiences is important and consistent meditation could help you achieve it easily.
Sharpens the mind and consciousness

Conciousness

According to a study in UCLA, meditation helped its practitioners preserve their brains better, with better quantities of grey matter compared to those who didn’t meditate. With improved concentration and focus skills, meditation helps people improve their memory retention and recalling. Meditation has been found to help people manage ADHD, improve cognitive skills, decision making and an overall better information processing ability.

How to get started with practicing Mindfulness

The quieter you become

So now that you’ve come to the terms with the fact that meditation is beneficial in more than one way, how do you get started practicing meditation. First of all, remember the fact that overdoing meditation won’t help you much. Remember the mantra, ‘Less is more’. Practicing meditation, even for three to five minutes a day is much better than doing it for 2 hours straight one day and not showing up the entire week.

Start small. Take 10 minutes out of your busy schedule daily to connect with yourself. It is usually tougher in the beginnings, to sit ideally, simply concentrating on your breathing. But over time, it becomes easy & within first 2 weeks, you could start seeing the benefits

Practice meditation, Practice mindfulness.

6 Reasons Why You Should Stop Complaining & How Can You Do It

6 Reasons Why You Should Stop Complaining & How Can You Do It
How To Stop Complaining
As we were landing into the middle of another year, like everybody else, I did some retrospection and re-evaluated my last year’s journey.
I thought about how it’d be the perfect time to start making the changes I wanted to make a few weeks ago/last month/last year. When I brooded about one habit which I wanted to improve upon and change, the first thing that came into my mind was to stop complaining.
As mindful as I strive to be with my words, I always end up complaining. Whether it’s the weather, my job, clothes, relationships, worldly situations, traffic, high prices, etc. (The list goes on…)
Have you ever thought about the amount of time you spend complaining in a day?
The thing is, we have made ourselves so miserable that we end up finding fault and blaming others for our current situation.
Think about it:
  • Has complaining solved any of your problems?
When we complain about things to our family, friends, or spouse, we only bring negative energy into our lives. The energy which we invest in complaining, if invested in something positive, can transform our lives and make us happier.
So this year, I challenged myself to stop complaining and see what happens.
I knew that complaining was a habit and it would take a little bit of time to break. But there was one thing I knew for sure: Habits can be broken with will power and consistency.
Well, it’s been 2 months since I have started practicing the art of not complaining and guess what, I have been pretty successful.

Of course, I cannot say that I’ve never complained in the past 2 months. I did a few times, but it’s OK as I am still on the path to breaking a bad habit and inculcating a good one.

Things I do in order to stop complaining:

1. Express Gratitude
I have often found myself worrying about things which I don’t have rather than focusing on the things which I do have.
This year I decided to say more phrases like, “Thank you”, “I appreciate your help”, “Congratulations”, or simply just acknowledge the fact of how lucky I am to be alive.
Of course, it takes some time to become grateful sub-consciously, so I started setting micro-goals instead of macro goals.
Every morning, I wake up feeling thankful of what I have and remind myself to be more grateful than the previous day, thus slowly building the habit.

2. Change Perspective
Everyone has their own story and their own way of looking at life.
By simply accepting this fact, you will notice that you are more open to people. You will be more open to life. Most importantly, you will open yourself up to possibilities you’ve never even thought of.
It’s not necessary to agree with everyone, but you can always appreciate and accept their thoughts and values. You cannot change somebody else’s attitude and perspective, but you can change yours.

I have always had a strong grasp on what I believed in and what I stood for, which of course led to clashes with the people around me.
So, I promised myself that I would listen to people more and try to understand their perspective. I must say, in the past 2 months, I have been able to look at the world with endless possibilities as this shift in perspective has greatly widened my horizons.

Change perspective

3. Change Complaints Into Solutions
This is the most important point for me.
Whenever I see myself complaining about anything, I ask, “What can I do to change the situation”?
If there isn’t a solution, accepting things the way are kills the urge to complain.
For example, instead of complaining that it’s cold outside and I hate living in this place, I stuff myself with woolens so that I feel warm and cozy.
Use complaints as a catalyst for positive change and positive actions. It will bring peace and happiness into your life rather than frustration.

Turn complaints to solutions

4. Dissociate From People Who Complain Too Much
Constantly listening to people who are angry, frustrated, and complain too much about family, life, and various situations only adds negative energy into your life.
It’s very important to draw a boundary line and surround yourself with people who are cheerful, grateful, and appreciative of life.
In the past couple months, I have distanced myself from people who complain a lot. It’s not that I did not meet or talk to them at all, but I did not indulge myself when people around me started whining.
When these conversations arise, I distance myself. Doing this has brought a very positive spark to my life. I feel vibrant and full of positive energy.

5. Notice How Often I Complain
By simply being consciously aware of what we say, we can notice how often we complain, and what we’re complaining about.
I started noticing when I’m complaining. Do I complain during a particular time, situation, or around particular people?
Whatever the case may be, I follow all of the above points and try to live my life to the fullest.

6. Practice Meditation & Yoga
Yoga is a positive way of life which helps you to be stress-free, healthy, and happy. It strengthens positive mental attitudes, develops focus and concentration, and increases physical (and mental) flexibility. It makes you feel alive and helps you get to know your true self.
Yoga, along with meditation, will help you tune out all of your negative thoughts and emotions. This will help you feel more connected to yourself and to the world around you.
I started practicing yoga and meditation. However, I can’t do it regularly as I always tend to run away from exercising.
I am still trying to improve on this particular point.

practice yoga

One thing which I can say for sure is that after 2 months of practicing these changes, my life has changed for the better. On the inside, I feel very happy and energized.
Of course, it’s impossible to wake up one morning and completely stop complaining, but by being mindful of what we say, we can slowly change this habit to be more happy and present in the moment.

Never forget that life is all about perspective.

How To Become a Morning Person Even If You Find it Tough

How To Become a Morning Person Even If You Find it Tough
tips-for-becoming-a-morning-person
“Good Morning” –  a greeting that is dished out several times during the day. For some people, morning is at 6AM, for somebody else, it’s at 11AM.
One of the most famous early risers is Apple’s CEO Tim Cook

One of the most famous early risers is Apple’s CEO Tim Cook.
Tim Cook wakes up at 4:30 AM. He’s done with almost an entire day’s work by 12PM.
You might have read posts like this one suggesting that waking up early has a lot of benefits. That’s because it does.
So what are these benefits?
Waking up early gives you:
  • An early start on getting work done.
  • A quieter time; the house/the city is quiet and peaceful.
  • Your mind is the most clear in the morning and primed for handling the toughest tasks.

So how do you become a morning person?

1. Prepare for the next day
By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.  – Benjamin Franklin
This is such an under-appreciated thing.
We all prepare for meetings, exams, events, and so on. What we don’t do is, take it to the next level.
If you prepare for tomorrow, you get a clean and clear structure of what you want to do the next day. When your mind knows what it wants to do tomorrow, you will wake up with an intention to achieve your goals. It is that simple.
We don’t usually hype up ourselves about wanting to get up the next day. Being passive about waking up will lead nowhere.
Prepare for tomorrow and you will wake up automatically with the desire to achieve it.

2. Do NOT use your mobile devices or computer at night
Although we live in the modern world, our brains have primitive characteristics.
To the brain, white light means morning, and morning means staying awake.

If you stare at your phone screen or laptop screen for an hour and expect to go to sleep immediately, you will be disappointed. It’s very unnatural for our bodies to function in that way.
A lot of us cannot avoid this usage and a good way to counter this white light is to download the Flux app. The Flux app mimics the light outside and if it is evening time, your screen gets an orange tinge and it gets darker as time progresses.
This automatically tells your brain that it’s night time as it counters the bright white screen.

3. Do NOT bring your work to bed
Your night routine should be different from your morning routine.
Work is expected to be done in the morning, and if you bring it to bed before you sleep, then your morning routine and night routine is the same.
You subconsciously tell your body to stay awake because you are working.
When you get to bed, do something else that is different from your morning routine like reading a book or taking a hot bath.
  • In the morning
4. Keep your alarm away from you
This is a super simple hack to get you out of bed immediately.
If you keep your alarm on your phone and your phone is next to you, then your immediate reaction will be to turn over and press the snooze button.
If you keep your alarm at a distance where you have to physically get up to switch off the alarm, you’re already awake and out of bed.

5. Perform an activity that wakes you up
Everybody has an activity that they can perform which signifies that they’ve woken up completely. This activity takes us from the groggy phase to the woken up phase.
This can either be a quick cup of coffee, a cold shower, or just a few simple stretches.
Find out your activity that will help you transition to the woken up phase and do it every morning.
stretches

Getting a good stretch in the morning can wake you up in seconds

6. Have some “Me” time for yourself
Being healthy and having a good feeling about yourself is key to being productive and happy.
If you are able to create some “Me” time for yourself that includes meditation, mindfulness, and/or thinking about your future, then you will have created a time in the morning that you will be looking forward to. You will want to wake up early just to have this “Me” time.
Make yourself feel good and feed yourself positive thoughts during this time. Not only will it motivate you to wake up early, but it’ll set you up for a cheerful, positive day.
Extra Tips
  • Go light on the alcohol especially on the weekends.
  • Keep your Sundays relaxed and sleep early.
  • Try not to consume alcohol on a Sunday that can disrupt your Mondays.
  • The momentum of a good week should not be lost because of a heavy weekend.
It’s not difficult to become a morning person. If you consistently continue it for a few weeks, you’ll notice that you automatically wake up even before the alarm rings.

Hundreds of mourners turned out to pay their respects at the funeral of a 20-year-old traveller who was battered to death with a shovel at a service station.
The grief-stricken family and friends of Quhey Saunders marched through the streets of Essex as his coffin was led on its final journey by a horse-drawn carriage to a cemetery.
Mr Saunders, 20, a member of the travelling community in Stanford-le-Hope, Essex, was attacked with the shovel in front of his parents at the M25 services in Cobham, Surrey, in June.
Wails and moans of anguish could be heard as the mourners walked behind the ornate silver carriage in Standford-le-Hope, with many breaking down into tears.

After Mr Saunders died Miss Smith posted a heartbreaking tribute to Mr Saunders on social media on Wednesday, accompanied with photographs of him having fun with his friends.
She said: 'I'm so lost without him, knowing I can't just ring his phone and hear his voice or fall asleep on the phone like we did every night. Even when we'd argue we would ring each other and not talk, just go to sleep on the phone. It's the little things [that] mean the most.
